The largest group: the non-affiliated. Cmr survey: 52 per cent of Italians do not identify with any political party. Voter apathy is a cause for concern. If an election were held today, fewer than six out of ten voters would turn out. How can we address this?

The phenomenon of ‘political homelessness’ is becoming increasingly apparent. It is the absence of a home, of an ideological anchor with which to identify. We have had a taste of this in recent days with the local council elections. The very same polls on the upcoming regional elections point to a significant proportion of undecided voters and those who do not seem inclined to turn out to vote. Hence the difficulties in making electoral projections and the looming spectre of low voter turnout.
