At the head of the group were Alessandro Vardanega and Emma Marcegaglia. It had been described as the ‘march of hardship’ – the hardship of being entrepreneurs in a country that proves (or proved?) itself to be hostile: too much bureaucracy, legislative bloat, unnecessary costs, and a system’s competitiveness in freefall. Four and a half years have passed since that 27 May 2011. Today, Renzi is very much present in every sense: at the helm of the country, and physically present today at the general assembly of Unindustria Treviso, at Bandie di Spresiano. ‘We support anyone who wants to reform the public administration,’ says Maria Cristina Piovesana, president of Unindustria Treviso. The president does not want this to be seen as a political endorsement: “What we are proposing is a pact to change Italy. In recent years, a spirit of confrontation and protest has prevailed: now is the time for proposals and shared goals.”
