‘Business is culture: regional theatres need to specialise’
Research on the Verdi Theatre in Pordenone: ‘Media(t)tore of the region’ Lessio: ‘Trieste has opera; we have the young talent’
‘Not just theatre, not just a venue for performances, but a “mediator”, a place of ‘mediation between business and culture, intended as a bridge to foster cross-fertilisation’ – as researcher Daniele Marini summarises – ‘and at the same time an agent of development, an entity that does not lead but knows how to bring together the forces of the local area and tell their story’. The Verdi Theatre in Pordenone embodies this ‘mediator’ – ‘in an era of transformation, we need new words’, Marini adds – and is the subject of a study (by Marini and Fabio Marzella) commissioned by the Verdi Theatre from Community Media Research, in partnership with BCC Pordenonese and the Industrialists’ Union. This qualitative study, based on interviews with 25 stakeholders, demonstrates how the economic and cultural spheres – as also attested by Pietro Roman of BCC and Michelangelo Agristi of Unindustria – have already embraced the challenge of identity that culture is called upon to address.
