Two studies by the sociologist Marini reveal that solidarity and civic engagement are also prevalent in the north-east<\/p>\n<p>Italy has a less fearful and angry face than the one portrayed on talk shows. Its values are increasingly moving away from the individualism and consumerism that characterised its recent past, and it would rather see itself as meritocratic, politically forward-thinking, reformist, and even European. This portrait also applies to the North-East, and emerges from the latest two works by sociologist Daniele Marini: the e-book *Profilo Italia.
