That\u2019s why a permanent job isn\u2019t a priority<\/p>\n
83 per cent of people in the Veneto region would prefer to advance professionally and increase their income. However, 70 per cent also fear that young people will have to leave the region or face a worse situation. Self-employment remains, however, the preferred option for achieving self-fulfilment.<\/p>\n
The main concern is unemployment, even in the North-East, where rates are practically the lowest in Italy; yet work is a key factor in social identity \u2013 a certainty that is now, however, beginning to falter. There have been crises in the past too, but they were \u2018linked to phases of development: after a period of stabilisation, the economy would resume growing as before. As a result, unemployment would return to its normal levels. Companies would start hiring again and people could find a job: a \u2018permanent\u2019 one, that is, stable and secure\u2019. Not only in the public sector, but also in factories, companies and banks. This is no longer the case, and it is this revolution that is the focus of the new study edited by sociologist Daniele Marini, scientific director of the CMR-Community Media Research laboratory<\/p>\n
