The Verdi\u2019s new role at the crossroads of culture and business<\/p>\n
Through a research project and a round-table discussion, the Giuseppe Verdi Municipal Theatre is examining its role, which goes beyond simply presenting a programme of performances, positioning it instead as a key partner for civil society at all levels \u2013 cultural, social and economic. This is a path that has been under way for some time and is becoming increasingly consolidated as we look to the future. But is this the right path? It would certainly seem so, judging by the picture painted by the research commissioned by the Theatre from Community Media Research (scientific director Daniele Marini), in collaboration with Unindustria Pordenone and Bcc Pordenonese, which compiled the findings of a targeted interview with 25 key witnesses and representatives from the local area. The result is a theatre that acts as a bearer and focal point of local identity \u2013 indeed, a cultural \u2018mediator\u2019 capable of fostering shared visions of the future \u2013 whilst simultaneously serving as a driving force for development, able to connect and nurture a virtuous cycle between business and culture. However, the need for leadership emerges \u2013 someone with a forward-looking vision for the theatre, who can assign it a role in this direction; there is an expectation that a leadership class will emerge that transcends divisions and parochial perspectives. Three key concepts have emerged from the testimonies, forming the basis for a new vision of theatre: cross-fertilisation (with theatre as a place of encounter and dialogue between the economy and culture), cultural entrepreneur (with their own projects), and cultural mediator (educator and guide).<\/p>\n
