RES PUBLICA – Regional elections put the political system to the test
In the regional elections on 31 May, centre-right politicians are urging people not to vote for the centre-right candidate, whilst centre-left politicians are urging people not to vote for their own party’s candidate.
A sign of internal clashes between the various warring factions, but also of the breakdown of the party system.
In a Cmr Intesa Sanpaolo survey published today by *La Stampa*, 52.6 per cent of those surveyed were unable to identify a political figure with whom they ‘feel ideologically aligned’ and 75 per cent believe that the traditional categories of right, centre and left are no longer capable of reflecting reality.
The fact that, in the end, only 57.3 per cent of those surveyed say they are prepared to go to the polls seems far too high. Continue reading
